Structure and Architecture Symposium

Structure + Architecture Symposium

The American Institute of Architects Portland announced the first Structure + Architecture Symposium, exploring the innovation that springs from the architect and structural engineer relationship.

This groundbreaking symposium aims to illuminate the importance of this collaboration, and to examine technology that integrates architectural and structural design.

It will investigate the idea of structure as a generative force in the design process.

Keynote speaker Ross Wimer, AIA, Design Partner in the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), has created pioneering architectural projects in over 20 cities on five continents.

Ross has worked to integrate the rigor and logic of engineering into his designs.

His projects have been published widely, exhibited at the Venice Biennale, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and have received numerous awards, including three Progressive Architecture awards.

Long-time collaborators Bob Frasca, FAIA, of ZGF Architects and Art Johnson of KPFF Consulting Engineers will share their experiences and perspectives on the role of the architect and engineer, including successes, lessons learned, and their thoughts on the future direction of the professions.
