World's Biggest Design Award Presented in Copenhagen

The international INDEX: jury has shortlisted 110 designs for INDEX: AWARD, the biggest design award in the world, which is presented in August under the patronage of HRH The Crown Prince of Denmark.

The 110 top nominated designs represent all seven continents. In the spirit of the INDEX: theme "Design to Improve Life", they address such diverse problems as water shortage, CO2 emissions, environmental sustainability as well as health and safety at work.

Form, Context and Impact
Other design awards focus exclusively on form, but the INDEX: jury also looks at the design's context from ethical and cultural points of view and at the design's impact on society, including the sustainability of the design and the number of people who will benefit from it.

Winning Designers Announced on August 24
The winners of INDEX: AWARD will be announced on August 24, and several Danish Ministers, leading design and innovation experts as well as the majority of the top nominated designers will be present in Copenhagen. The events of the day include:
- The international opening of the outdoor INDEX: AWARD EXHIBITION on Kgs. Nytorv square in Copenhagen, where all top nominated designs are on display.
- The INDEX: AWARD ceremony at Copenhagen City Hall
- Official Design Dinners in private Danish Homes

Conference on User-centered Design & Innovation August 23 and 25
The new alliance between INDEX: and AIGA, the professional association for design in America, is initiated On August 23 and 25 with "The Copenhagen Prelude to INDEX:/Aspen Summit 2008". Here, leading experts in innovation and design will debate the human and commercial potential in User centred Design and Innovation and Design to Improve Life within both public and private sectors, The results of these discussions will then be passed on to the AIGA|Aspen Design Summit in January 2008, where the suggested design solutions will be refined, beginning the process of advocating the active engagement of those elements of society and business who can actually implement the solutions.
