A striking "halo" for office and conference rooms, objects and private apartments is introduced in form of the ring-shaped suspended luminaire "Airflite": Designed by the Berlin-based architecture- and design-office KINZO, developed and crafted at the light-manufacture idee.design.licht. GmbH (idl) in Limbach-Oberfrohna near Chemnitz, the flame-red laquered ring of aluminium and acryl glass (diameter: 2.20 m) is an unmistakable architectural statement with a touch of cinematic drama: with "Airflite", KINZO pays tribute to the iconic "war room" set of the Stanley Kubrick movie "Dr. Strangelove" designed by the legendary production designer and "James Bond" art director Ken Adam.
"Airflite" is just as compelling design-wise as in terms of light distribution: Inside the four circle segments, cleverly arranged dimmable fluorescent tubes create an intelligent light distribution - 70 per cent of the light shine upwards to be reflected by the ceiling, 30 per cent shine downwards. Satinised, translucent acryl top and bottom shades create a soft, flattering and standard-compliant illumination and conceal the twelve fluorescent tubes (12xFQ24 watt). Combined with a transparent feeder and suspended by a variable high-grade steel cord, the luminary seems to float free and weightlessly in space.
"Airflite" made its official debut on the occasion of the office trade show Orgatec Cologne in October 2008. Before, KINZO established one-off design prototypes in several futuristic interior projects in Berlin. At the Orgatec fair, "Airflite" hovered above the award-winning double desk "KINZO AIR 202" and proved its use and capability as a workplace illumination. Whether deployed as a single lamp above reception, meeting situations or arrayed or grouped in generous spaces, "Airflite" adds a visually and architecturally powerful impact to any room.
Despite its impressive diameter of 2.20 m and its weight of 48 kg, "Airflite" is surprisingly easy to install due to a cleverly thought-out assembly and mounting concept.
As with all lights of idee.design.licht. "Airflite" is individually hand-crafted at the manufacture. The aluminium body comes in red, white and aluminium as standard colours - other colours are available on request.
"Airflite" is the first product result of the co-operation between KINZO and idee.design.licht. Currently both companies are working on a comprehensive product range based on the "Airflite"-design. "Airflite" and the collaboration with KINZO emphasises the corporate philosophy of idee.design.licht.: From IDEA to DESIGN to LIGHT - a fusion of innovation and creativity with lighting know-how and outstanding craftsmanship.
