Global architecture practice Woods Bagot is expanding its presence in Asia to capitalise on its success in the Chinese market.
The firm has worked on more than 60 projects in the country including the recently announced masterplan for the Tiajin East development.
Other upcoming projects include Shengyang South China Landmark Mall, Yi Xing Residential Complex, Qingdao Yongxin International Plaza and Foshan New City.
Led by Principal Mark Unger, the new studio will include 35 architects, urban planners and interior designers.
The Shanghai studio is a "natural extension" to its footprint in the market having operated there successfully for 25 years.
Woods Bagot was also the first architectural firm to be recognised for its commitment to research and knowledge in the 2008 and 2009 Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award.
"I am extremely confident that the Shanghai studio would deliver strong results for clients in the region," said Ross Donaldson, global executive chairman and CEO of Woods Bagot.
"It is the practice's collective belief that this new venture will raise the overall Chinese architectural benchmark and advance design innovation and environmental sustainability within the region."
The firm has been actively involved in shaping China's fast-developing cities, with projects across Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Changsha and Shijiazhuang.
