The Royal Institute of British Architects announced the recipients of the RIBA HSE Research Fund, and details of two more funding schemes open for students of architecture; the RIBA Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects (WCCA) Travel Award and the RIBA Stephen Williams Scholarship.
In 2009, the RIBA partnered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to create a funding scheme to research how Health and Safety is currently being taught in Schools of Architecture in the United Kingdom. The aim of the RIBA HSE Research Fund is to develop a better understanding of the quality and variability of undergraduate training in relation to the designer's role in eliminating health and safety risks and to point at improvements. The recipients of the RIBA HSE Research Fund 2010 are Daniel Jary, Leo Care, Howard Evans, and Rosie Parnell from the University of Sheffield. The team application was awarded £10,000 for their project, which will build on their experience of teaching health and safety within the undergraduate design studio at the University's School of Architecture.
Two further funding schemes are now open for architecture students. Set up in memory of Stuart Murphy, the Chief Planning Officer of the City of London, and past Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects, the RIBA WCCA Travel Award provides an international travel grant up to a total of £2,000, to a student or a group of students enrolled in a RIBA-validated Part 2 course in a School of Architecture in the Greater London area. The deadline for submitting complete applications is March 26, 2010.
The RIBA Stephen Williams Scholarship established in memory of Stephen Williams, past Director of Aedas, aims to support exceptional talented architecture students who need funding for their studies at either Part 2 or for a Masters course. An award of £5,000 will be made, and Aedas will try to ensure that a representative from said office is available to support and/or mentor the student, if the recipient is to enrol in a School of Architecture in a country where Aedas has an office. The deadline for receipt of complete applications is March 26, 2010.
