In celebration of the 3rd annual World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) on 29 June, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) have announced a new element to their global student poster competition, public online voting.
For the second year running, the WIDD student poster competition has design students from over 60 educational institutions on six separate continents vie for the best poster representing this years theme: "Industrial design: Humane solutions for a resilient world".
Seen as the spirit of the competition, this year's theme is apt to provoke an inspiring reaction from students worldwide.
"This theme stems from the immense response received from our recent 'Uniting Designers in Disaster' initiative launched on Facebook on 22 January in light of the disaster in Haiti and conveys the important role industrial design can play in global issues," stated Mark Breitenberg, President of Icsid.
World Industrial Design Day is an international day of observance that was first declared on 29 June 2007 on the 50th anniversary of Icsid in recognition of the profession of industrial design.
Through a series of international events on 29 June, World Industrial Design Day provides designers and like-minded design enthusiasts from a wide spectrum of professions with an opportunity to accentuate industrial design's role in improving the economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of life around the world.
Deadline for entries is April 15, 2010.
