David Mourning

David Mourning, IIDA, AIA
David Mourning is President and CEO of IA - Interior Architects, a company he founded in 1984. IA is one of the first global architectural firms focused exclusively on interiors. With his vision and leadership, IA continues to advance the practice of interiors while serving clients worldwide through 12 offices in the United States, one in London, and the IA Global Alliance, a network of design firms with over 60 offices and a staff of 1,000 in Latin America, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.

Mourning earned a degree in Architecture from the University of Kansas and began his career working in the Virgin Islands. After relocating to San Francisco, Mourning established IA on the premise that the firm would not practice base building architecture, although it would be licensed and incorporated as an architectural design firm comprised of architects and interior designers. He set out to build a culture of opportunity and an environment where the best and the brightest, who are passionate about design, would be inspired, challenged and supported in achieving their goals and furthering the discipline of interior design.

Mourning is Past Commissioner of the California Board of Architectural Examiners, a member of CoreNET Global, and a registered architect in 27 states.

"The three Members inducted into the College of Fellows this year represent the highest level of Interior Design professionalism," said Lewis Goetz. "Their range of experience, spanning various fields and international arenas, and their level of expertise is a credit to their professionalism and dedication to the industry. We are proud to welcome these outstanding IIDA Members into the College of Fellows."
