Celebrating 40 Years of the Lancia Stratos

Recognised for its futuristic design and radical styling, the Lancia Stratos is one of the world's most successful rally cars, winning three consecutive World Rally Championships from 1974 to 1976. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Lancia Stratos, the Design Museum will display the full-size 2005 Stratos Concept Car, designed by British design agency Fenomenon in the Design Museum Tank.

The Fenomenon Stratos Concept Car was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 and has been in development ever since, with a design team led by former RCA student Chris Hrabalek the co-founder of Fenomenon and owner of the largest collection of Lancia Stratos cars in the world.

The original Stratos Concept Car debuted at the Turin Motor Show in 1970 and was designed by Italian car company Bertone. The 2005 Concept Car references the classic lines of the 70s model, with its distinctive angular wedge shape body, wrap around jet screen and Ferrari engine. Designed as a multi-terrain supercar, the 2005 edition has been constructed using a mixture of carbonfibre, titanium and aluminium panels.
