Creative Industries KTN has published its IP and Open Source report, with a foreword by Jeremy Davenport. It takes as its starting point the contribution that intellectual property (IP) makes in generating business value.
The report comes at a time when intellectual property (IP) has a high political profile, and coincides with the Hargreaves Review, which has been closely examining copyright - the dominant form of IP for the creative industries.
CIKTN believe the themes and recommendations in the report can strengthen the ability of the UK's creative industries to harness their world-beating IP more effectively to compete and grow.

Twelve strategic themes emerged from research, expert interviews and workshops, enabling four 'provocations' to emerge which formed the structure for the online survey and the final report:
- Business models: there are no "magic bullets"
- The future is collaborative
- IP: use it - or lose it
- Investment: the "elephant in the room"
The report makes ten recommendations:
1. Metadata is key
2. Consumers need clearer guidance
3. More "test beds" are needed
4. Co-creation needs practical support
5. Community matters
6. The principle of copyright is vital
7. Focus on exploitation
8. Improve the flow of risk capital
9. Strengthen the quality of the pipeline
10. Find ways to express the value in IP and intangibles.
