The third series of ten Royal Mail's London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games stamps go on sale on July 27, 2011 to mark the one year countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. The stamps are designed by Studio David Hillman and feature commissioned works by ten artists.
The new series brings the total Royal Mail issue to 30 1st Class stamps in the run-up to the 30th Olympiad and London 2012 Paralympic Games, as part of Royal Mail's role as an official licensee of the Games. The latest issue, subtitled "Get Ready for 2012," features a fresh set of ten dynamic images championing Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Royal Mail commissioned Studio David Hillman to design the three sets of stamps to mark the run up to London 2012 Olympic Games. David Hillman's designs bring together some of Britain's most exciting fine artists and illustrators, specially commissioned to highlight the sporting and cultural significance of this incredible event.
"These Royal Mail stamps are beautifully designed. All three sets provide a fitting tribute to the Olympic and Paralympic Games," commented Jeanette Kwakye, Team GB 100m sprinter, who helped Royal Mail launch the Special Stamps at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. "Being at this superb stadium just makes me want to compete today. I can't wait to be part of it!"
