100% Design, a contemporary interior design exhibition presenting the latest furniture, lighting, accessories, wall and floor coverings, will be launching its next installation in Singapore, following 100% Design London and 100% Design Shanghai. With wealth in Asia expected to triple in current asset value by 2015 to US$15.8 trillion from US$5.6 trillion presently, and projections that 2.5 billion people from Asia will join the ranks of the world's middle classes over the next 20 years, consumerism and a desire for a higher quality of life are emerging to be key trends in Asia, alongside urbanization and the advent of mega cities. The latter will see increased development of residential, hotel, commercial, retail properties among others. Singapore with a significant number of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) is poised as a highly accessible market for other HNWIs in markets like Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. As an economic sector, based on latest estimates, the value-add of the design cluster in Singapore in 2010 is circa US$3.0 billion. The outlook for growth continues to be sanguine.
Singapore's government has long-recognised Design as a vital component in enhancing Singapore's value proposition. Through Design and the commercial application of its rich cultural content, complemented by its strengths in science and technology, Singapore aspires to be the New Asia's hub for design innovation and creative enterprise. With a clear and articulate aim to instill Design as a core competency in its workforce and enterprises, the country is poised to spearhead intellectual property, innovative products, services and experience that will capture new consumer demand arising from Asia's urbanization and growing affluence. Having committed investments in areas of infrastructure and its highly cosmopolitan population make Singapore an ideal venue to host 100% Design.
"We are very excited to be launching a new design event in Singapore. Singapore is a global city at the forefront of design and architectural innovation," commented Michelle Lim, Managing Director, Reed Exhibitions Singapore. "Regarded as the main gateway to the dynamic markets of South East Asia, Singapore's strategic geographical location and its world class infrastructure make it a superb destination to host 100% Design Singapore. With the strong support of the DesignSingapore Council and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), we are confident that 100% Design Singapore will become the leading international design event in Asia that connects international contemporary high-end designer brands to the design community including architects, specifiers and retailers for the well-heeled in Asia."
Taking place in tandem with the Singapore Design Festival in 2012 at the Marina Bay Sands, 100% Design Singapore will comprise of three segments:
