Design and Style: Typography Sketchbooks

Design historian Steven Heller and educator Lita Talarico, co-chairs of the MFA Design program at the School of Visual Arts, and designers Travis Cain, Viktor Koen, Matt Luckhurst, Esther K Smith + Dikko Faust (of Purgatory Pie Press) will discuss the merits of the graphic designer's typography sketchbook, a creative "work-out" space for generating ideas and drafting unique type that becomes synonymous with brands and institutions around the world.

An unrestrained and idiosyncratic collection, the book Typography Sketchbooks includes work by boundary-pushing designers including Ivan Chermayeff, Carlos Segua, Milton Glaser, Maira Kalman, Bob Aufuldish, Matthew Carter, Javier Mariscal, Patrick Thomas, Erik Spiekermann, Viktor Nubel, Peter Bilak, and Jean-Baptiste Levee.

This free event is a chance to talk type with two type fans. Conceived and organized by Arezoo Moseni, Design and Style is a series of events featuring discussions and presentations by leading professionals in the various design fields.
