AIA New Orleans 2012 Design Awards: Design Beyond Sustainability

AIA New Orleans will hold its annual Design Awards program on Thursday, March 15, 2012. Each year, AIA New Orleans Design Awards program accomplishes three simple, yet invaluable, goals: celebrate the best of this region's architecture; recognize achievement in a broad range of architectural work; and inform the public of the breadth and value of architectural practice.

The intent of this years theme, "Design Beyond Sustainability" is to stress the importance for architects, contractors, and owners to look beyond what is just sustainable in building practice today, towards something with real value and quality that gives back - or at least does not take away - from our overall environment.

In an era where 'green bling' has become the norm when discussing sustainable buildings and architecture, oftentimes more than the design itself, it seems the overall importance of thinking about design beyond simply sustaining what we have, or doing less harm, has become a new standard.

This event will challenge architects and owners to consider what it means to go farther, to Design Beyond Sustainability.
