Conversations at the Edge, the screening and visiting artist series organized by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation (FVNMA), returns to the big screen on February 14, with Chicago-based filmmaker Fern Silva.
Silva, who was named one of the "top 25 avant-garde filmmakers for the 21st century" in Film Comment magazine, will screen a selection of his geographically-sweeping short films.
Additional highlights include the US premiere of Life is an Opinion, Fire a Fact (2012) by Karen Yasinky on February 21, followed by a visit from Amsterdam-based curator and researcher Darko Fritz on February 28.
On March 7, an international roster of contemporary new media artists will remix tapes by Chicago video pioneer Phil Morton.
"A spectrum of approaches to experimental media art makes Conversations At the Edge a literal meeting place for a series of investigations into the making of meanings and changing cultures," commented Jon Cates, FVNMA Department Chair.
