Design Council Appoints Clare Devine as Director of Architecture and the Built Environment

The Design Council has appointed Clare Devine as its new director of architecture and the built environment.

Clare has 25 years' experience in architecture and has been a director of three practices working in the fields of: housing, regeneration, education, public, civic and cultural buildings.

Clare was a board director at Shepheard Epstein Hunter, set up the London office of Cambridgeshire based practice, Ruddle Wilkinson, and was director and national head of education and public sector at Capita Symonds Architecture.

In 2011 Clare became a partner of ARC Atelier, a practice which brings together architecture, research and communication.

She is Chair of Women in Architecture, Vice Chair of Architects for Change at RIBA and a former CABE Enabler.

"I'm very pleased, and excited, to be joining the Design Council at this interesting time," Devine said. "I'm looking forward to working with people across the Design Council team to promote design as a powerful vehicle in the improvement of places and lives."
