Unlock Art: The World Goes Pop, a new Tate online film, examines the genesis and nature of Pop Art and its key players including Andy Warhol, Peter Blake and Roy Lichtenstein. Alan Cumming, star of film, explores how America's vibrant and aspirational can-do culture became the focus of the movement, and how Hollywood movies, advertising, packaging and fame inspired its look.
This is the third film in the series of eight made in a collaboration between Tate and Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts which aims to unlock the big stories and ideas behind art. Unlock Art aims to take viewers on a journey through various art movements and themes, from the history of the nude and humour in art, to Surrealism and Pop - offering the need-to-know facts, and making the arts more accessible to a wider audience.
