Michael Doret, the designer known for his logos, album covers, and magazine covers and art for major brands such as Wreck-It Ralph, the New York Knicks, MLB, Time Magazine, Playboy, Wired, TV Guide, Kiss, Capitol Records and Universal Studios will be the speaker at the next Los Angeles Is Just My Type Meetup Group event.
His work revitalized the art of hand-lettering by expanding it into the areas of illustration and graphic design and influenced generations of designers. He entered the font business over ten years ago with an offering of beautiful script typefaces and opening his digital foundry Alphabet Soup.
Doret will speak about his conscious and subconscious influences.
He discovered that from the humble beginnings of his career up to the present, certain forces and their environments have influenced his work-both directly and indirectly.
"We all like to think that we're in total control of all that we are and all that we do, but I think it's not that simple," stated Doret.
"Rather, we're the sum total of everything we've experienced from our humble beginnings up to this very moment. It's about what I do, but it's also about inspiration and influence."
