Studio Ashby has designed the interiors of a Soho apartment, encompassing both character and style. The studio created a space that is full of charm and personality, using careful layering of objects, furniture, lighting and art to capture the imagination of any visitor. Inspiration for the designs has been taken from the surrounding location and reflects the spirit of lively Soho.
Furniture choices included in Soho13 had to be interesting and unique but couldn't compete with the elegant setting. In order to enhance the open layout of the apartment, Studio Ashby designed the reception to allow for enjoyment of the terraces, socializing, relaxing and dining all from the same point.
The studio looked to source fabrics and furniture which strongly complemented the individual character of each living area. Stronger colors from the artwork and bold reception rug have formed the spine of the flat's personality.
It was crucial to create a calm and peaceful retreat in bustling central London and make the most of the terraces that wrap around the apartment by bringing the organic landscape into the calming interior environment. This has been achieved by using an earthy palette with natural hues and plenty of texture.
"We very much took the 'human approach' to design to be above all else a home that is both warm, friendly, but full of charisma," commented Sophie Ashby, Studio Ashby's founder and creative director. "We have taken inspiration from the essence of London and some of the British Abstract figurative arts, whose works hang at the National Gallery, whilst furniture and fabric details subtly reference the tailors of Saville Row."
In order to encapsulate the exuberant and creative spirit of Soho, the art was curated with a focus on contemporary artists, including a mixture of emerging and established names from London. These include pieces by Sandra Baccarelli and photography by David Ryle and Jake Curtis, which act as an anchor to the space.
