The 2017 Penguin Random House Design Award will open for submissions on January 18, 2017. The contest offers students an opportunity to engage in design for publishing during their studies and to experience real cover and page layout design briefs first-hand.
To make the process even more similar to the way the designers work, once the judges have selected the shortlist, the Art Directors will give the shortlisted entrants feedback and further art direction on their submissions. Shortlisted entrants will then be invited to resubmit their work, taking on board all the comments, before the final round of judging.
Three cover briefs for this year are; The Adult Fiction Cover Award: Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adult Non-Fiction Cover Award: Truman Capote - In Cold Blood, and The Children's Cover Award: The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾.
The award, split over the three prizes above, gives students interested in pursuing a career in design the chance to win a work placement with the Penguin Random House Design Studios, as well as £1,000 in prize money.
The deadline for entries is March 7, 2017.
