Lauckgroup Creates Family-friendly Workplace to Empower Women in Need

lauckgroup designed a custom space for WiNGS, Women in Need of Generous Support, a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to providing Dallas women and their families with a path to better life through financial management classes, micro-enterprise coaching, and women's health assistance.

Moved by WiNGS mission, lauckgroup offered at-cost materials sourcing and pro-bono programming and design services for the organization when it declared its plans to move to a larger space. Transforming the 18,400-RSF square foot space into one that felt familiar and comfortable was a key deliverable, as the staff wanted clients to feel safe and heard. Placing a fireplace in the resource center, creating coaching rooms that evoked the feeling of a sitting room, and designing a treehouse-inspired childcare area all accomplished this. lauckgroup's thoughtful approach resulted in a space that reflected the nonprofit's mission to help women realize their limitless room for potential.

During programming and space planning, lauckgroup quickly realized how interconnected all of the activities in the facility would be, which ultimately brought the team to a "space within a space" layout. This concept formed the spaces in plan and also three-dimensionally, allowing the designers to provide flexibility and overflow space and to capture opportunities for introducing light in a natural way into an almost windowless building.

The first floor incorporates space for training and mentoring while the second floor houses the workspace for the staff. lauckgroup introduced new exterior windows in key places, like the end of corridors, to give access to the exterior while still being resourceful with the budget.
