The 2017 Victorian Premier's Design Awards is now open for submissions. The annual awards program celebrates Victorian designers and businesses that use design to create better products, services, businesses and ultimately a better state of Victoria.
"The Victorian Premier's Design Awards recognise the important and pervasive role design plays in our daily lives, and its social, cultural and economic impact on our state," commented Martin Foley, The Minister for Creative Industries. "The awards also uncover the next generation of Victorian design innovators. The student design category, introduced last year, revealed an impressive pool of design talent across our tertiary sector."
The awards are supported through the Andrews Labor Government's $115 million creative industries strategy, Creative State. Creative State includes a comprehensive range of initiatives to promote the value of design, strengthen the design industry and reinforce Victoria's position as a design leader.
Over 85,000 people are directly employed in design-related roles in Victoria, with the design sector generating revenues of $5 billion annually, including an estimated $400 million in design-related exports. The creative industries strategy, Creative State seeks to further increase the contribution the design sector makes to the Victorian economy.
The deadline for entries is September 1, 2017.
