Seymourpowell Designs Domus Toaster and Kettle for Dualit

Seymourpowell recently collaborated with Dualit to co-design the latest ground-breaking kettle and toaster range released by Dualit, the 'Domus.' Ergonomically designed, the toasters and kettle come with either black or porcelain color finishes and have been designed around the familiar task that millions of us do every day: making some toast and putting the kettle on.

"Following our previous work with Dualit which we're very proud of, it was an exciting challenge to create the Domus collection," commented Neil Baron, Associate Creative Director from Seymourpowell. "For this model, we wanted to go even further with the experience. A great number of people in the UK will use either a kettle or a toaster multiple times a day, therefore we put an emphasis on thinking about how it should feel when you wake up and make tea and toast. Objects to delight in and give pride of ownership - Domus provides something both contemporary and clean yet familiar and approachable".

When designing the 14cm slots of the toaster, Dualit's research showed that users wanted to be able to toast large slices of bread, so the toaster has been upgraded to have full coverage of the bread to ensure it is fully toasted. The Domus has integrated Dualit's patented 'Peek & Pop' function which allows users to lift the bread with the ejector lever while toasting and then drop it back down, without interrupting the toasting cycle and giving greater browning control.

The toasters, available in 2 or 4 slice models, are chrome plated steel and are controlled using soft touch LED illuminated buttons. Weighing 2.2kg and having a high output wattage of 2100-2250w for the four and 1000-1200w for the two, Dualit's 'Perfect Toast Technology' provides a quick and even consistency by calculating the temperature of the room and the toaster.

The Kettle has a stainless steel body, boasts a large 1.5L base and has a concentric, circular design with an ergonomic silicone handle. It features Dualit's patented 'Sure Pour' - this enables a simple lift and pour that requires only a low pouring angle. This makes it simpler for the user by putting less pressure on their wrists, thus having less water wasted by dripping down the kettle or on the worktop.

BPA free, the Kettle uses a 3Kw mechanism which provides a fast boiling time and is concealed in the base of the kettle in order to reduce the levels of limescale. A boil-dry safety feature switches the kettle off when empty and dual measuring window-lettering shows how much water you are boiling. One side features a cup level indicator, ideal for tea drinkers, while the other side measures water in liters.
