Carl Hansen & Son has opened its new flagship store in San Francisco. Located at 111 Rhode Island Street inside the Showplace East building, the new 2,052 square-foot space is designed as a loft-like living environment to inspire designers and specifiers, as well as the general public.
Following the success of the showroom expansion in New York's Flatiron District, the new location in San Francisco celebrates the brand's expansion into both the contract and retail markets. The new West Coast location provides a dedicated space to showcase a comprehensive representation of the brand's portfolio of modern Danish design classics from furniture designers such as Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint, and Arne Jacobsen, among others.
"San Francisco has long represented an intersection of international ideas and values, and combined with the city's reputation as a design destination, provides an ideal backdrop for our first ground level retail location in the US," commented CEO Knud Erik Hansen. "Our exceptional furniture is rooted in a tradition of collaboration with pioneering designers, and that philosophy finds excellent synergy in San Francisco."
Informed by the mid-century aesthetic characteristic of the Pacific Northwest, the new Flagship Store features an intimate setting inspired by natural materials and welcoming lighting, complete with furniture in a material palette ranging from white oiled oak to walnut, and color notes of soft pink and moss green. A kitchen featuring a custom island crafted from Mogens Koch bookcases offers a coffee bar and lounge area for customers to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Energized by the West Coast light and native woodlands, the Flagship Store's emphasis on natural materials creates harmony between the Danish minimal and California modern aesthetics.
