Carl Hansen & Son has opened a new flagship in Osaka. Set in the heart of the fashionable Minami-Horie district, the new store features an extensive collection of Danish furniture icons by designers such as Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint, and Arne Jacobsen.
Orange Street in Osaka's Minami-Horie district, where the new flagship store is located, is a cultural destination in its own right. Formerly called Tachibana Street and well known for its furniture outlets, Orange Street was redeveloped in early 2000s and is now home to an extensive array of prominent fashion, furniture, architecture and other creative shops and businesses.
Conceived to show a different side of the Carl Hansen & Son brand, the Osaka flagship store's interior has a more industrial aesthetic than its Tokyo counterpart, with such striking elements as a concrete staircase with Modernist inspired detailing. The contemporary blend of material, color and form creates a fitting backdrop for Carl Hansen & Son's collection of modern classics.
"Japan is Carl Hansen & Son's second largest market outside Scandinavia, and it is of utmost importance to us to be present in a design-conscious city like Osaka," commented Knud Erik Hansen, CEO and third-generation owner of Carl Hansen & Son. "The new Osaka store - our second flagship store in Japan, in addition to Tokyo - strengthens our position in the market, particularly in Western Japan, and helps us serve the Kyoto region. We are especially pleased to have a presence on Orange Street in Osaka's Minami-Horie district, known for its cultural richness and strong architecture and design presence."
