Aleksandra Gaca has been named the winner in the Best Product category for the 2018 Dutch Design Awards for her custom 3D woven textile BLOKO created for Renault SYMBIOZ.
BLOKO is a sound-absorbent textile with a woven 3D structure. The design aims to make the cabin of Renault's autonomous and electric SYMBIOZ concept car as comfortable as any modern home interior. Blending high-quality, organic cotton yarns with wool and polyester yarns, the fabric combines strength and softness.
Assessed on the basis of their aesthetics, impact, innovation, production method and cooperation, the decisive factor of each project for the jury was the extent to which a design is innovative and / or makes a relevant contribution to society. "The jury admires the innovative fabric designs of Aleksandra Gaca, making the application of the material suitable for the interior of the car of the future as a mobile personal space, as well as more traditional applications," the jury reported.
