Since 2017, The Portland Society for Architecture (PSA) has been using blank maps of Portland, Maine as a tool for citizen engagement. These blank maps provided a platform to collect ideas and inspiration about the city.
To date over 350 maps have been collected and cataloged from high school students to senior citizens, new Mainers to salty trawlers, each telling a unique story directly tied to their shared place and community. They are honest, wildly imaginative, and extremely inspiring.
Now - The Complete City: Imagined, invites the public to use these wildly diverse and imaginative maps as inspiration for what Portland can become in the future. By transforming publicly sourced ideas into compelling images, PSA hopes to inspire visionary planning and development and elevate public interest in the built environment.
The competition runs through July 22nd, 2019 and competition entries will be showcased at the University of New England Art Gallery in October 2019 - January 2020.
