Paramount Animation has released a new trademark logo featuring a new character: a tween Star Skipper designed by concept designer Christopher Zibach. In the new animated logo, the Star Skipper's magic touch transforms a skipping stone into a shining star. The new character will represent the studio across film, TV and marketing spots.
ATK PLN served as the creative agency for the new logo, with Patton Tunstall leading the animation as Creative Director and CG Supervisor. To create the logo, the ATK PLN team crafted a fully customized suite of tools to give the piece a stylized sense of depth of wonderment.
"From a technical and design standpoint, I really wanted the hair to feel special and truly embody a sense of whimsy and empowerment," Tunstall commented. "It's exciting to know that young women will be able to see themselves reflected within this strong female heroine before they see a Paramount Animation film."
The team leveraged new software technology to simulate details more intensely, including the Star Skipper's hair, which features over 118,000 strands of CG hair simulated per frame and hyper-detailed atmospheric elements including clouds and fog.
The logo features over 8 million instanced objects, all carefully woven together to infuse the inherent irregularities of nature with a beautiful, art directed sensibility. An entirely customized technical pipeline was created to animate the logo, with much of the piece being created in Houdini as well as GPU rendering handled in Octane.
