MAK has announced 'SHOW OFF: Austrian Fashion Design,' a comprehensive major exhibition on contemporary fashion designed/made in Austria. Curator Ulrike Tschabitzer-Handler, together with co-curator Andreas Bergbaur and Brigitte Winkler as a scientific advisor, will orchestrate a time travel through fashion design with Austrian routes in all its facets from the 1980s until today.
For the first time, an exhibition will place its focus entirely on Austrian fashion design and present a wide spectrum of designers who are from Austria, work there, or were educated there in fashion. Embedded into a spectacular, spatial installation by architect Gregor Eichinger, the exhibition will make the artistic work of creative disciplines tangible on multiple levels in the context of fashion.
A wide overview of legendary and formative events, magazines, and interviews will spark a discussion on social and cultural perceptions of fashion as a phenomenon. This will be accompanied by fashion expert Brigitte Winkler's five most important moments in fashion documentary and fashion reporting from the 1980s until today.
