Artek introduced two classic lighting designs, the A110 or "Hand Grenade" and the A330 or "Golden Bell" in two new colors: all black and all white. The A110 pendant light will now be available in both all black and all white, and the A330 will be available in all white. The new lighting colors will be launched officially at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, April 12 - 17.
Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1952 for the building of the Finnish Engineers' Association, the A110 pendant lamp was also used in the Council Chamber of Saynatsalo Town Hall. The lamp is made from white or black lacquered aluminum with a white or black plastic cable. The polished brass ring has been replaced by a white or black painted ring on the new model for a cohesive and uniform look. The A330 pendant lamp, also designed by Alvar Aalto in 1954, was created specifically for large building projects in the 1950's. It was first used in the teachers' canteen at the University of Jyvaskyla. The lamp features a white lacquered aluminum base and white plastic cable, with a painted white ring rather than the traditional polished brass. Both new lamps are UL listed.
The new lighting is available to the trade as well as the consumer for immediate placement. They will be previewed during the New Face of Artek at M2L event on March 14th and will be offered through M2L, as well as all Artek showrooms and distributors.
