HMS Host, a world leader in dining and retail experiences for travel venues, invited UXUS to re-design the food plaza at Los Angeles International Airport, Terminal 4. The brief was to create an innovative food plaza concept that embodied the visual and cultural vernacular of Los Angeles. The new Terminal 4 food court is to become a trend-setting gastronomic destination, bringing together the many varied and exciting dining experiences Los Angeles has to offer.
"The design language will capture LA's extraordinary cosmopolitan mix, with a strong focus on sustainable materials and lighting, rich, human textures and bold statements that combine to create a unique sense of place," said George Gottl, UXUS co-owner and creative director.
Inspired by the vibrancy of iconic Grand Central Market, Angeleno's Market reflects Los Angeles' rich culinary diversity and the unique, innovative cuisine that has contributed to the region's world renown. Laid out as a microcosm of the LA food scene, passengers travelling down the terminal will encounter a rich medley of dining experience spanning from: West LA's La Provence Patisserie and Cafe, Miracle Mile's famed Campanile sit-down restaurant, West Hollywood's organic Real Food Daily and 8oz Burger Bar, Downtown's legendary bar The Varnish at Cole's and finally, to an authentic Food Truck specializing in seasonally changing ethnic cuisines such as Ahn-Joo's Korean snack bar.
The QSR area will exude a vibrant and trendy Downtown market atmosphere with contrasting recycled aluminum surfaces, reclaimed lumber, pressed tin and weathered leather banquettes. Accents of deep red at the bar, bold black and white ceramic mosaic flooring, subway wall tiles and vintage lighting will be set against an "outdoor" seating patio with a tall exposed ceiling and LED festoon lamps for a sense of occasion.
