Geyrhalter Wine Group recently launched a Biodynamic Calendar app for iPhone and iPad for long-term client Martian Ranch & Vineyard in anticipation of its Biodynamic certification in the coming months.
Biodynamics is a method of farming that emphasizes the farm as a whole system. It is a holistic approach that views the connection between the farmer, soil, plants, animals, and cosmos as a whole system. Based on a series of lectures given in 1924 by Austrian philosopher/scientist Rudolf Steiner, Biodynamics places an emphasis on composting and the use of a series of preparations made with natural ingredients. These preparations are used in a prescribed manner in compost, soil, and plants based upon the lunar and celestial movements to form the basis of the Biodynamic farming system.

The app works as a visual tool that helps you easily track days for sowing, pruning, and harvesting a wide variety of crops, including vineyards, vegetables, and fruit orchards. It has the added benefit of identifying "Fruit Days," which are ideal days for tasting wines. With up-to-date hourly tracking of the various Biodynamic cycles in stunning visual ways, managing wineries agricultural crops under the guidance of the Biodynamic calendar becomes as easy as the click of a button.
