Alessi Wins Prestigious GOOD DESIGN Award

Alessi's POP-UP bottle opener has earned a prestigious 2008 GOOD DESIGN Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The POP-UP designed by Giovanni Alessi Anghini, great-grandson of Alessi's founder Giovanni Alessi, is his introductory piece in the world of Alessi design.

The POP-UP was inspired by a droplet of water and resembles so in its sleek shape.

The bottle opener features a pressurized opening mechanism as well as a magnet to grasp the cap once it has been removed.

The oldest competition of its kind, GOOD DESIGN has evaluated entries based on innovation, form, materials and construction, concept, function, utility, and aesthetic appeal since 1950.

In 2008, the museum received hundreds of submissions from more than 48 nations.

The POP-UP will be featured with other award recipients on the Chicago Athenaeum website.
