Alessi announced that the "Tonale" table service, designed by David Chipperfield, has received an ELLE DECO International Design Award (EDIDA).
Now in its sixth year, the award program is designed to recognize global excellence in ten categories: tabletop, wall covering, bedding, fabric, kitchen, furniture, floor covering, lighting, bath, and designer of the year.
The overall global winners, decided upon by the editors of the 24 international Elle Deco magazines, will be announced at the Milan Furniture Fair in April.
Also the winner of a 2010 Design Plus Award, the Tonale table service, designed by David Chipperfield, is comprised of a number of items including a tray, a board, a carafe, plates, bowls, beakers and cups.
Inspired by vernacular ceramics from Korea, Japan and China, Tonale was conceived as an exercise in refining functional household objects.
The name "Tonale" refers to Giorgio Morandi's use of color tonality, imbuing his daily objects with a sense of individuality.
The objects are produced in a variety of materials including earthenware, enameled steel, glass, and wood.
While striving for expressive purity, the range honors today's requirements for durability and versatility.
